COVID-19

Triage & Admin Area

  • Implement sick policies (patient & team)

  • Telephone triage  - confirmation call

  • Patient Triage in car or outside of practice

    • COVID19 questionnaire

    • Take temperature - >100 F

  • Patients perform hand hygiene & don mask  upon entering dental practice 

  • Admin team can wear cloth  or surgical face masks

  • Admin team disinfecting reception area throughout the day

  • Plexiglass barriers in reception area

  • Utilize online payments & email for pt correspondence – avoid paper as much as possible

  • Limit visitors accompanying patients

  • Patients immediately leaves upon completion of dental treatment

  • Chairs 6 feet apart

  • No magazines/newspapers

  • Disinfect chairs after each pt

  • Admin team should don proper PPE (mask/gloves) while disinfecting

  • Review disinfection protocols with admin team 

 

Clinical Area

  • Patients perform hand hygiene & don mask  upon entering dental practice

  • Limit aerosol generating procedures 

  • If needed, use HVE w/ 4-handed dentistry w/dental dam

  • Proper levels of PPE & if not available, alternate PPE per CDC

  • Prioritize PPE according to risk of team member

  • Allow enough time in the appt time for team member to properly disinfect the operatory according to the CDC guidelines & OSHA mandates (MIFU for disinfectants)

  • If reusable gowns are used, launder onsite or 3rd party

  • Remove protective clothing prior to leaving work area (beginning & end of day)

  • Hair bonnet or surgical cap

  • Implement all CDC Guidelines & OSHA mandates that have been in place BEFORE the pandemic

  • No evidence that Preprocedural Mouthrinse is helpful but PPMR may reduce level of oral microorganisms in aerosols generated during dental procedures 

HR Considerations

  • Develop a written Infectious Disease Preparedness & Response Plan

  • Include a written Respiratory Plan in OSHA binder

  • Implement sick policies (patient & team)

  • Screen all team members before each shift (take temp & ask COVID19 screening questions)

  • Alternate working days among non-essential team members

  • Social distancing during shifts

  • Alternate lunch breaks

  • CDC/OSHA COVID19 posters 

  • Follow existing OSHA mandates & CDC Guidelines that were established prior to COVID19

  • Classify risks for each team member role
